This past weekend was the Shufu Open Judo Tournament in Beltsville, Maryland and we sent down a contingent of competitors. They did very well, and brought home quite a few trophies, 2 of which Ray is displaying above.
We sent 8 competitors, who came home with a total of 8 trophies; 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze.
Our very own Cheerful Assassin dominated her 115 lb division, going 3-0 for gold, She then decided to give up 11 lbs and fight the 126 lb division as well (where she won one, lost one for silver)
Allie did the same in her novice division, and took gold. Then she really stepped up. There was a woman there, a black belt who came to compete and had no one to compete against. She wasn’t just a blackbelt though, she was an experienced, international competitor. Allie stepped up and fought. She lost convincingly —- but she is a pretty new green belt competing against a very experienced black belt. Hats off to you for that Allie. Seriously.
Josiah went 4-0 in his brown belt/black belt division, and came home with gold.
Ian went 1-2 for bronze. Steve also went 1-2 but did so in a larger division, so he did not get a medal.
John worked hard, competing in a masters division where he was older and less experienced than his opponents. He learned a lot, but came home without a trophy.
Lori and Kristen competed in Kata. They won the Nage-No-Kata division, and took silver in Overall Kata.
A big congratulations to all the competitors
