Green Belt Grace becomes Brown Belt Grace

This is Grace. I first met her 9 years ago, when she came to the club for a night of Judo. Ray first met her over a decade ago, when the Philadelphia Judo Club was housed at Maxercise.

Grace came to Philadelphia as a green belt. Her nickname was Go Go Grace. I called her Green Belt Grace —- even put her in my phone as Green Belt Grace.

Over the last decade or so Grace would come to Judo, and then school would take precedence and she would not come to Judo. Or graduate school would take precedence, and she would not come to Judo.

Then she finished her education, and committed to Judo. She came to class, worked hard and competed. She committed to Judo. And tonight, Green Belt Grace became Brown Belt Grace. I guess I’ll have to change her entry in my phone.
